Robert H. Byers, M.D.

Dr. Byers joined Mt. Tam Orthopedics in 1993 as the group’s first spine surgeon, and has been providing patients from Marin and the Bay Area with state-of-the-art spine care since then.  After graduating first in his class at George Washington University School of Medicine, he completed his internship and residency at University of California at San Francisco.  He subsequently spent an additional year of training in a Fellowship of Disorders of the Spine, under the guidance of Robert G. Watkins, M.D., at the world-renowned Kerlan and Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, where many sports professionals seek spinal and orthopedic care.  He then enjoyed eight years of private practice at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West LA before returning to the Bay Area in 1993.

Dr. Byers has continued to make every effort to provide his patients with the ultimate experience in diagnostic evaluation, followed by appropriate conservative, and if necessary, operative care.  Patient education is a keystone to obtaining successful outcomes, and is sought in every single patient’s case, not only by Dr. Byers, but by his extremely well trained and informative staff.  One of the hallmarks of his practice is the fact that patients need not go beyond Marin to obtain excellent, and in many cases, less invasive surgical procedures when alternative treatments have failed.

Dr. Byers' assistant is Alison Dumont.
